Disability Advocates of Kent County

Disability Advocates of Kent County (DAKC) recognized that their website could do more to support their mission of empowering people with disabilities. While it contained valuable information, they saw opportunities to make services easier to find, highlight ways the community could get involved, and better showcase the impact of their events. They envisioned a site where visitors could quickly access services, explore opportunities to volunteer, advocate, or donate, and experience the energy and success of past and upcoming events.

Designing for Clarity, Impact, and Involvement

We reorganized the site’s content so services are easy to find and intuitively grouped. Calls to action for volunteering, advocating, and donating are now highly visible and strategically placed to inspire community involvement. For events, we created a dedicated section that highlights both upcoming and past events, complete with details, photos, and sponsor recognition—giving visitors a sense of the community impact and encouraging participation in the future.

Refreshing the Brand Experience

DAKC also wanted to reimagine how their existing brand elements, like shapes and patterns, were used on the website. We refined these visuals to be cleaner, more dynamic, and vibrant, creating a modern, professional look while staying true to their identity.

Accessibility Built from the Ground Up

As an organization that serves individuals with disabilities, accessibility was a top priority. From the earliest design stages, we followed WCAG 2.2 and ADA compliance best practices, ensuring the site would be inclusive and user-friendly for everyone. We implemented: [ADD BULLETS]

High-contrast colors that meet a minimum 7:1 ratio for readability.

Clear, large typography with generous line spacing.

Consistent navigation and skip links for screen reader users.

Text alternatives for all images and captions for videos.

Responsive design for all devices, ensuring full functionality on mobile, tablet, and desktop.
