Collision of Me
Collision of Me is a deeply personal memoir by Shanell Larner, an intuitive health medium and founder of Define Your Glow. The book traces her journey of self-discovery—from suppressing her spiritual gifts to embracing them as a source of healing and insight.
Shanell approached PMSI with a clear vision for her story, and we helped her bring it to life visually and editorially. Our team designed the full book cover, created custom chapter illustrations, revised the manuscript, and developed a promotional website pop-up to support the book’s launch.
Exploring the Duality of Self
The cover art was a thoughtful, collaborative effort rooted in Shanell’s vision of duality and self-reflection. She imagined two versions of herself—one darker, one lighter—gazing inward in a moment of introspection and growth.
Bringing this idea to life required strategic planning and visual precision. Our team carefully developed and refined a series of image prompts, working through dozens of iterations to fine-tune facial features, lighting, and tone. Each round brought us closer to a design that balanced contrast with cohesion and emotional depth.
Through regular collaboration and visual testing, we arrived at a final image that felt both deeply personal and visually compelling—capturing the spirit of Shanell’s journey in a single, powerful composition.
Visualizing the Journey
Early in our process, Shanell shared a set of meaningful icons she wanted to use at the start of each chapter—each one tied to a theme from her story. This sparked an idea: what if we used those same icons to reimagine the Table of Contents (TOC)?
Rather than a traditional text-only list, we crafted a TOC that invites readers to engage with the manuscript visually—echoing the introspective, spiritual tone of the book. This icon-based layout created a more intuitive navigation experience and reinforced the magical, intentional essence of Shanell’s story.
Echoes of Her Story
The chapter illustrations was a collaborative effort shaped by Shanell’s vision and a curated set of inspiration images. These references helped define both the subject matter and emotional tone, guiding our team in creating a consistent visual style.
Shanell requested a soft, watercolor-inspired aesthetic—something expressive yet gentle—to reflect the personal and intuitive nature of her story. Using her references, we crafted illustration prompts that ensured stylistic cohesion across chapters.
Together, we also developed a unifying color theme that balanced warmth, calm, and spiritual resonance. Each illustration was designed to feel connected yet distinct, representing the evolving phases of her journey.
The result is a visual thread that quietly supports the memoir’s emotional flow—enhancing the reader’s experience with artwork that feels intimate, symbolic, and aligned with the story’s heart.
